Project Care & Democracy: Multipliers with Educación Popular & Theatre of the Oppressed
Between October 30 and December 18, 2025, the workshop series “Care & Democracy: Multipliers with Popular Education & Theatre of the Oppressed” took place at the Lohana Berkins Education Center in Berlin. Organized by Bildung von Unten and funded by the Care for Future Foundation, 18 participants from civil society initiatives, migrant groups, and self-organized projects took part. The aim was to learn new methods for political education and to bring in experiences from their own communities.
Over the course of seven workshops and a public closing event, participants engaged with topics such as care work, migration, discrimination, and democratic participation. Methodologically, the project drew on Popular Education and Theatre of the Oppressed, approaches that connect personal experience with collective analysis. Many participants plan to integrate these methods into their own practice. The project highlights the potential of creative approaches for political education in Berlin.
