Direct bus to the protest march to Davos against the World Economic Forum

Background

The protest march to Davos is an annual, two-day demonstration in Switzerland by StrikeWEF, which protests against the undemocratic exercise of power by the super-rich and global corporations at the World Economic Forum. In order to enable as many people as possible to take part in the demonstration, a direct bus has been organized for the third time.

The bus offered a cost-effective way to get there and back for activists who did not want to take part in the educational trip taking place at the same time. Funding from the Care for Future Foundation made it possible to stagger ticket prices based on social needs, so that people with fewer financial resources could take part.

Project description

The direct bus, organized by the Kipppunkt Kollektiv, started on January 17, 2025 in Berlin and drove via Leipzig, Halle, Erfurt and Würzburg to Küblis (Switzerland), the starting point of the two-day winter hike. The return trip from Davos took the same route on January 19, 2025.

To ensure a pleasant and safe journey, an overnight stay was organized in Baden-Württemberg on the way there and back. Solibus e.V. provided the bus and drivers, while the hike was organized as usual by StrikeWEF.

During the trip there was an information and get-to-know-you program to network the participants and prepare them for the event. They also had the opportunity to take part in a preparatory meeting, a workshop and a follow-up meeting for the educational trip.

Results and effects

High demand & full capacity: All 50 seats on the bus were occupied.

Social participation: Participants paid between €30 and €70, depending on their financial means, for travel, accommodation and food.

Successful protest: The additional mobilization of activists from Germany strengthened the protest and received extensive media coverage.

Positive feedback: Many participants praised the organization and the solidarity. Some expressed interest in helping to organize the direct bus in the future.
